Welcome to A-JIS Middle School! Middle School is a time of rapid intellectual and personal change, where students are discovering who they are and how they will contribute to society, whether here in Japan or abroad. We provide a strong academic base and include the Arts, Values Education and Physical Education to ensure the students leave A-JIS as well rounded individuals with great knowledge, spirit, teamwork, and ability to communicate with integrity. At A-JIS, we feel middle school is also a time to live, laugh and learn together as a community. Small class sizes and teacher to student ratio ensure that all students receive individualized attention to academic needs and to form trusting relationships with peers. We use a student-centered approach where students are encouraged and guided to feel empowered in their own learning.

Our middle school students range from grade 6-9, with a Mainstream component for those students proficient in English, and an Intensive component for students learning English for the first time, or beginners. With respect to the host country, students in the Mainstream track take daily Japanese lessons. Those students’ aspiring to reach certain benchmarks and requiring more intensive support to communicate in English in the Intensive track, will focus on learning English through an enriched language based curriculum. All students are encouraged to participate in after school clubs and sporting activities, student council, and the very popular school dances.

We strive to challenge each student and provide opportunities for students to develop a love of learning, appreciation and tolerance for others, and a confidence that they are becoming life-long learners with a responsibility to contribute as global citizens. As in line with our MAP - Mission, Aims and Philosophy, we encourage on a daily basis for all students to be “The Best You Can Be”.
